The Dog Owner Doesn't Like This Dog
The small brown dog sat quietly by the fence, watching the world go by. His name was Buddy, and although he belonged to a family, he often felt lonely. His owner, Mr. Harris, never seemed to like him very much. While other dog owners played fetch, gave treats, and took their pets on long walks, Mr. Harris barely paid attention to Buddy.
Every morning, Buddy wagged his tail hopefully when he saw his owner. He would run to the gate, eager for a kind word or a gentle pat on the head. But Mr. Harris usually ignored him and continued with his day. Buddy never understood why.
Despite the lack of affection, Buddy remained loyal. He guarded the house, barked when strangers approached, and waited faithfully whenever Mr. Harris left. No matter how he was treated, Buddy's love never faded.
One rainy evening, everything changed. Mr. Harris was returning home late when he slipped on the wet sidewalk near the house. He fell hard and injured his leg. The street was quiet, and no one was around to help.
Buddy heard the noise from the yard and immediately became concerned. He barked loudly and continuously, attracting the attention of the neighbors. One neighbor rushed outside and found Mr. Harris struggling to stand. Soon, more people arrived and helped him safely into his home.
As Mr. Harris rested, the neighbors explained that Buddy's barking had alerted everyone to the accident. Without the dog, he might have been left alone in the cold rain for a long time.
For the first time, Mr. Harris looked at Buddy differently. The little dog had shown nothing but loyalty and concern, even though he had received very little love in return.
The next morning, Buddy was surprised when Mr. Harris knelt beside him and gently scratched behind his ears. Buddy's tail wagged furiously. It was the kindness he had been waiting for all along.
From that day forward, their relationship changed. Mr. Harris learned that sometimes the most faithful friends are the ones we appreciate the least. And Buddy finally received the love he had always deserved.
